Honestly: for the right kind of under-eye, they're one of the best options we have. For the wrong kind, they won't do much. Here's how to tell the difference.

First, why under-eyes are so tricky

"Dark circles" isn't one problem — it's several, and they need different fixes:

  • Thin, crêpey skin — the skin here is the thinnest on the body, so as it thins further with age it shows the bluish vessels beneath and creases finely. This is the type polynucleotides help most.
  • Hollowing (a true tear trough) — a shadow cast by lost volume. That's a structural issue better suited to carefully placed dermal filler, not skin regeneration.
  • Pigmentation — genuine brown discolouration, often genetic or sun-related. Polynucleotides won't lighten pigment.
  • Puffiness / fat pads — a different issue again, and not something injectables into the skin will resolve.

Polynucleotides vs tear-trough filler

This is the key decision, so let's be clear. Filler adds volume to lift a hollow; polynucleotides improve the skin itself. The under-eye is an unforgiving spot for filler — placed poorly it can trap fluid and look puffy, or give a faint bluish tinge (the Tyndall effect). For thin, crêpey skin without much hollowing, polynucleotides are usually the safer, more natural choice. Is it safe around the eyes?

In trained hands, yes — the periorbital area is treated routinely.
