What it does

The muscle that does the clenching

The masseter is the thick muscle at the angle of the jaw that closes your mouth. Like any muscle it grows with use — and years of clenching, grinding or simply strong chewing can leave it bulky, which both widens the lower face and keeps the jaw permanently tight.

Treatment softens how hard that muscle can contract. People generally notice the tension easing first, over a couple of weeks; any change in jawline shape comes later and more gradually, as the muscle reduces in bulk.

Why choose it

What people come to us for

Easing jaw tension

The most common reason people ask about it — a jaw that never quite relaxes.

A softer jawline

A gradual slimming of a heavy or square lower face, over months rather than days.

Nurse led & assessed

An advanced area treated only after a proper face-to-face assessment.

Honest expectations

If your jawline is bone structure rather than muscle, this will not change it — and we will tell you.

Assessed before anything is agreed

The masseter is a functional muscle, not a cosmetic detail — it does the work of eating. Treating it well means assessing how strong it actually is, how symmetrical, and whether your concern is muscle at all. That takes a consultation, not a price list.

Good to know

Masseter questions, answered

Why isn't there a price list for masseter treatment?

Masseter treatment involves a prescription-only medicine, and the right plan depends entirely on your assessment. We'll talk through everything that's relevant to you — including cost — at your free consultation, and there is never any pressure to go ahead.

Will it change the shape of my face?

Softening the masseter can gradually slim a very square or heavy jawline, because the muscle reduces in bulk with treatment. How much change is realistic for you depends on your anatomy, and that is exactly what the consultation is for — we would rather set an honest expectation than a flattering one.

Can it help with teeth grinding or jaw clenching?

Many people come to us because of jaw tension, clenching or grinding, and treatment of the masseter is commonly used to reduce that muscle activity. It is not a substitute for a dental assessment — if grinding is damaging your teeth, please see your dentist as well, and tell us what they have advised.

How long does it last?

Results typically last around three to four months, and often lengthen with regular, consistent treatment as the muscle adapts. Your own timing is reviewed at follow-up.

Is it safe?

When carried out by a qualified professional after a proper assessment, treatment of the masseter has a well-established safety record. As a nurse-led clinic, your safety and suitability come first — and if you are not a suitable candidate we will tell you.

Who carries out the treatment?

Every treatment is assessed and carried out by Emilee, an NMC registered nurse with ten years' clinical experience and an MSc in Nursing Science, following a face-to-face consultation. Prescription treatments are prescribed by a qualified independent prescriber.
